I was super stoked when I got the opportunity to screen this one recently. I am a big fan of Meghan Chadeayne, she is a multi faceted talent with a long future ahead of her and I have no doubt many gals #WWC (Wednesday woman crush) lol. Shes not the only talented name attached to this one though, shes surrounded by some equally talented folks both new and old in the field including 60-70s cult star Arch Hall Jr who makes a return to the big screen in this one after being gone for many too many years. Some less familiar names include Tyler Gallant and Michael Wainwright, along with Robert Allen Mukes, and for fans of Gruesome Hertzog you can catch him doing some narration work in this one! Once you look at all involved its easy to see why Lamb Feed is garnering so much attention, add a tightly written story to the cast list and you've got one hell of a short sure to wet the appetite of any horror fan!
Lamb Feed is the story of a womanizing business out on the road, much to the dislike of his fiancee (Melanie Robel) who has obviously had enough. They are on the phone fighting as he drives down the road, not paying attention he blows a tire. Taking off on foot he attempts to find help. As he makes his way from place to place looking for a phone, he makes a creepy new friend who wont take "NO" for an answer when he invites this poor stranded soul into the party! Once inside all bets are off as the women are hott, and the family is crazy, creepy, cool!
This one had me right from the start with this great Narration that leads into the story read by Scott Geiter AKA Gruesome Hertzog a popular name in indie horror reporting and vlogging. Its a great piece of old style marketing that I love and miss in the industry complete with warnings for viewers with heart conditions, and let me tell you I eat this stuff up, and wish more would bring it back. Its the kind of thing that elevates a film from just a movie to an experience, a memory that will be looked back on with a smile, so kudos right off the bat to Mr. Rodriguez for that one!
Now onto the story, its well crafted, and altho you pretty much know where its going its still manages to be very interesting, and keep you entertained. The performances are almost entirely across the board good, there are a few moments here and there where an actor or two start to falter but generally it passes very quickly and some performances really stand out. I loved what Michael Wainwright and Arch Hall Jr did with their roles, both are captivating! Arch Hall Jr literally steals the screen! Meghan was more limited in her role than I assumed going in, but she still has a pivotal role and a presence that demands attention. I think most will agree when shes on screen its hard to look away!
Lamb Feed plays out like an grindhouse drive in film of the 70s, its hardcore horror for old school fans. This is not one for the feint of heart as Michael warns in the beginning, complete with jump scares, good gore, and some visually shocking images interspersed throughout (including full frontal nudity). Lamb Feed is a short that will leave you begging for more! I cant wait to see what comes next for this talented group! I know there is something in the works that will reunite many of these great names and I look forward to telling you more as news breaks! In the meantime check your local area for special screenings, and support indie horror!
