Let me start by saying this book WILL NOT be for everyone, if you are feint of heart, or squeamish, this is not going to be your cup of tea. On the other hand if you, like myself, are looking for a writer whose stories possess almost Laymon (Richard) qualities, who isn't afraid to push the boundaries of what mainstream considers acceptable, a writer who writes for the Extreme horror fan, then you have found your guy in Tim Miller.
Miller offers up a villain, Eddie, who is a study in dichotomies, loving father ~ hate filled husband, completely, average everyman ~ vicious, murdering psychopath, protective, doting father ~ demented, teacher of the vile art of death... I was pulled back in forth emotionally between my pity for and my disgust with. And just as I thought I knew exactly where things were heading, Mr. Miller, ever so effectively, knocked the wind out of me with a twist that is so befitting this tale. He unapologetically drives the reader into a taboo world not soon forgotten.
Tim Miller has crafted a story, that is so much more than it appears at first glance. The pages seem to turn themselves and before you know it you're breathless, as it comes to conclusion. I felt like I had run a marathon in record time. Family night is a frenetic journey that once you start you cant put down.
I found it difficult not to give this a full 5 finger rating, the story itself, and styling are superior. I will most definitely read him again in the future. I based the 4 finger rating on some small technical issues such as typos/editing, and the fact that its not a story I could recommend for everyone. That being said, I believe Tim Miller knows his audience and spoils them rotten with fun fast tales like this one. Miller is a Cult Author in the making!
