If you are new to Terry M. West, as I was, you're going to be thanking your lucky starts that you've found him! A Freakishly fantastic thrill ride, that never slows down. Mr. West has compiled an anthology of 8 ( and a sneak peek ), of masterfully dark tales to quell your thirst for the macabre. Each story pulls you in and leaves you wanting for more. The character development is intuitive, building a feeling of intimacy that is unexpected in this format. The plots are driven, exciting and full of unexpected turns, sometimes down dark alleys of personal introspection. Terry M. West is just the jolt of energy that short story telling needs, to be revitalized from lost art form to the beautifully dark, foreboding fun that readers crave.
My only complaint ( which is really quite the compliment ), is that I want more! I didn't want to put the book down, but I also didn't want to let it go too quickly. I stopped after each story to savor the moments I had just shared, with the literary friends I had just made. Doing my best to give them the respect due for the enjoyment they had just offered me. Connecting at such a level is a resounding testament to how well written, and thoroughly enjoyable this work is.
One of the greatest compliments I can give, is that Terry M. West is able to take some very classic horror ideas, and put a whole new fresh spin on them. HELD OVER, is a prime example of his skill at reinterpreting an idea, that in my opinion has been done to death ( pun entirely intended haha), and finding a whole new life in it. CECIL AND BUBBA MEET A SUCCUBUS, one of my personal favorites, is another great example. It puts an unexpected twist on a story that you think you know. Mr. West quickly shows you how mistaken you are in making those kinds of assumptions.
This compilation of shorts proves that there are still new territories in the genre, and as a horror aficionado I say THANK YOU! I will anxiously be awaiting what Terry M West has in store for us in the future, and would highly recommend his works to all horror fans.
