Fear of the dark, who hasn't battled this particular fright at some point in their lives? Whether its a life long fear or just a temporary unease, almost all of us have been there. In Episode 6 Scott W. Perry creator of the series decides to deal with this particular phobia personally!
Theres a storm raging, its evening and Raine is chatting with her mom on her dying cell phone, the power is out. Thankfully Raines mom has given her plenty of candles and they are burning brightly, keeping the dark at bay, but for how long? Raine hangs up her phone, and slowly the candles begin to snuff out. Anxiety grows, fear creeps in to poor Raine, as the darkness starts to envelope her. What is happening? Why are the flickering candles losing their battle against the dark? Does the dark hold some nefarious secret or is Raine letting her imagination get the best of her??
Im not too proud to admit that as a child and even as an adult I find myself battling this fear on occasion, so this episode was a bit more personal to me. I believe that is one of the things that makes this entire series successful, at some point the series is going to expose a nerve for each viewer, because Everyone has a fear. Its one of those things that tie us all together, a shared experience that crosses all boundaries.
This is a really great episode, although I realize as stated I am probably a bit biased on this particular phobia. It has a really nice build up, the end was particularly interesting for me. I think some will see the end as open and shut with no room for variance while others will see it as very open to interpretation, and that is the kind of thing that lend s to great discussion.
