Starring Justine McKinney as Chelsea the Zombie
In the effort to be transparent let me start this one by saying that one Heiress to the Nation (my daughter Bree) is probably Dan Conners' biggest fan outside his own daughter. She even gets a mention in the Holiday Special that was a pretty huge moment for her. Two he has been a friend to and a big supporter of, us at The Horror Nation. That being said please know I review with integrity and what I am about to say is based solely on the work presented friendship aside. And now that we have all of that out of the way lets get down to business...
I really enjoyed the graphic novel Dan put out earlier this year and was excited that I got the chance to review it. So when I found out he was going ahead with the horror host type holiday special I was immediately sold! And I am happy to say its just as wonderful as I expected! How can a Horror mom go wrong with a film that includes the song Grandma Got Half Eaten By A Zombie?? Not to mention all the great segments, both new and old, Dan offers up in this instant classic.
A few of my favorite scenes included Santa Claus Conquers the Martians trailer, cartoon classic Christmas Comes but Once a Year by Max Fleischer (which made me long for those simpler times of ol'), and a hilarious call between Chelsea and Iconic mad man Vincent Price. Chelsea also offers up a fun reading of a special Chelsea the Zombie versus Belznickles story from the Graphic Novel released earlier this year. But by far one of the absolute amazing includes in My Gal The Zombie Holiday special is when Vincent Price is hosting Dickens Classic The Christmas Carol, a truly amazing moment to share and as a HUGE Price fan I had not seen this before and am so very glad I not only got to enjoy it myself but that I got to share it with my mini horror hounds!
This Holiday Special (and soundtrack CD) will proudly be taking its place in our families ever growing list of Holiday Traditions! I can not stress enough just how fun, funny and all around feel good this special is, which is sort of weird considering it has Santa battling Martians, dancing Red Devils, Zombie Grandmoms' and a whole ton of other crazy cool stuff, but that is exactly why this one works so well. It brings together the ages in a way that is entertaining and just plain joyful. I would love to put this on during a Christmas Eve family get together with everyone from my babies (Bree and Shawn), to their Great Grandparents and all the ages in between, because this one is going to speak to all of them and in doing so its going to create conversations, and laughs, and shared memories that will in turn create new memories to be cherished for years to come by all the generations! I say THANK YOU DAN!, for creating something that brings so much to table and will make a great addition to our holidays for years and years to come! Now if you'd please excuse me I've gotta run Shawn is looking for a dance partner, Its Christmas is playing, and I cant say no to this little man! (Another great song on the My Gal the Zombie Holiday Special Soundtrack also available for stuffing some stockings this holiday season!) Check ya'll later!!!
