Canadian director David Hackl is hitting Kickstarter for his new indie horror. Hackl, a veteran of the horror genre, started out as the production designer on the Saw films and went on to direct Saw V. His next film GRIZZLY, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Thomas Jane and James Marsden, hits the screens later in 2014.
Hackl has teamed up with writer Michael Gilvary, (executive story editor and producer on Dick Wolf’s CHICAGO FIRE), who has created Earthworks; an intense and chilling story set in the trenches of World War 1. The film centers on 5 young US soldiers who are lured away by the fog of No Man's Land while on a mission on their first night at the Front. They lose their bearings and sanity.
The campaign is offering some amazing pledges. At the lower end pledges at £1/$1.67 and £10/$16.70 offer access to the director, cast and crew via social media. This is a huge difference from most projects which usually reserve all contact with the director and cast until higher sums are pledged. For these small amounts you can tweet and chat via a secret Facebook page to a Saw director, Spy Kid, a Walking Dead and a future ‘wolf’ (check out X-Men writer David Hayter’s Wolves). There are also signed storyboards and VFX storyboards (the VFX producer is Emmy-award-winning Emile Edwin Smith who created the VFX for Firefly and Battlestar Galactica), artwork, interactive scripts and even a game app based around the film and the undead.
At the top end of the pledges is the chance to play a background extra. At £4500 this might seem expensive but unusually it includes flights and accommodation for Croatia where it will be filmed. Not only that, they will also pay for flights and accommodation for a SECOND trip included in the package, for a screening in LA or NYC where you can hang out with cast and crew yet again.
There are also top pledges that include a week shadowing the director on set, great for anyone contemplating a directing career or just someone wanting to see the Wizard-of-Oz stuff.
Every pledge over £30 /$51 includes a download of the movie making donors the first to see and won the film and as of this week EVERY donation of £75 and over gets a punky graphic t-shirt. Below is a small sampling of pledge amounts and perks, for the full list be sure to visit Earthworks Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/781054231/earthworks-0
Earthworks is an atmospheric film that relies as much on the suspense and bait-and-fright techniques of psychological thrillers as it does on classical horror elements.
The cast line-up includes Daryl Sabara of SPY KIDS fame, who also stars in Eli Roth’s upcoming THE GREEN INFERNO, Michael Zegen best known as Benny Siegel in BOARDWALK EMPIRE and Randall in THE WALKING DEAD and the Canadian actor Adam Butcher known for his teen debut in SAINT RALPH and for the Tribeca award-winning DOG POUND. Adam will soon be seen in WOLVES with two superheroes, Jason Momoa (AQUAMAN) and Lucas Till (HAVOK).
If you're interested in helping bring something new to the screens, or would like to get in on one of these perks for yourself or a friend you can connect with Kickstarter campaign for Earthworks by clicking the picture link below!

"We are artists and thinkers, not really business folk," writer-director Jason Torrey elaborates. "We wanted to make a kick ass, original slasher movie, the kind we would like to watch ourselves. Honeyspider is set to premier, with two special events this fall that should be a blast from the past sort of good time, much like the film itself promises to be! Indie film HONEYSPIDER, pulls inspiration from such cult classics as Night of the Demons, Popcorn and of course Halloween. The film is written and produced by Kenny Caperton, A bit of an enigmatic horror celebrity of his own making, as he built and lives in the infamous Myers House in North Carolina, which is a replica home with some modern touches and tweaks, that hosts several events and has been the filming location for features, shorts, and even garnered him some national coverage on various programs. So its easy to see that Kenny is a horror fan of the truest sense, living his fandom everyday. (be sure to check it out online if your in the North Carolina I have no doubt there is some spooky good times to be had there as well!)
