Thats right Tobe Hooper's The Chainsaw Massacre was inspired by true events. The movie was inspired by Edward Gein August 1906-July 1984 was one of the most notorious murderers and body snatches of his day. Killing two women in brutal fashion and many believe his brother years earlier he was known for his eccentricities but little did the people of Plainfield Wisconsin know just how strange his hobbies were. Upon Geins apprehension the authorities were met with a scene the likes of which they had never before witnessed, bowls made from skull caps, all sorts of keepsakes and trophies sitting around his home fashioned from the bodies he had exhumed through the years. The case garner massive notoriety and his story went on to inspire many of our favorite scary movies The Texas Chainsaw Massacre among them. This Gein inspired film Celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with a special screening at Cannes 2014!
